Comforting words for everyone!

The most important aspect of God’s Word is the promises that are contained within, promises that He makes to those who are prepared to trust Him. It is these promises that bring comfort, promises that feed off the weakest spark of saving faith to provide the reward of comfort, peace and joy.

This month we thought we would look at comforting verses from the Bible. In John chapter 16 verse 33, Jesus tells us that we will have trouble but that we can take heart because He has overcome the world!

We reached out to friends on social media around the world to ask them for their favorite verse which gives them comfort and we are going to share them with you here. Various versions of the Bible were used. You may have your own verse – please share it with us in the comments box as we would love to hear from you.

Before we start one thing we do as a family is write verses down on sticky notes and stick them in places around the house as a constant reminder that God is with us always. We have some on the fridge, some on the side of the bookcase, some on our laptop as our screensaver and we journal them too.

Here are some of the verse’s folks shared:

“I can do all things through Christ who Strengthens me is one of mine.”  Philippians chapter 4 verse 13.

“I will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy chapter 31 verses 6 to 8

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs chapter 3 verses 5 and 6

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  John chapter 3 verse 16

“I know the plans I have for you declares the lord…plans to prosper you and not to harm you.” Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11

“God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in time of trouble…….. Be still and know that I am God” ……. The entire Psalm 46 inspires peace and calmness always.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah! He is our merciful Father and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our suffering, so that we may be able to comfort others in all their suffering, as we ourselves are being comforted by God.”  2 Corinthians chapter 1 verses 3 and 4

“What doth the Lord require of thee? But to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God” Micah chapter 6 verse 8

“And God will wipe every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation chapter 21 verse 4

“I sought the Lord, He answered me and delivered me from all my fears” Psalm chapter 34 verse 4

“It is your father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.” Luke 12:32

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.” 25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. 26 It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. God is faithful, no matter what we need to endure.” Lamentations chapter 3 verses 22 to 26

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians chapter 4 verse 8

“The Lord is my refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble.” Psalm 46 verse 1

“Our God is for me a strong shelter and a rock of refuge where I can hide during the storms and difficulties of life. He is my tower of strength, my firm fortress and my secure stronghold.” Malachi chapter 3 verse10

“And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever. Isaiah 32:17. Looking to the kingdom when all current trials and troubles will be no more.” Lamentations chapter 3 verses 22 to 25

These verses all show us that even if we have difficulties in this life, ultimately God’s blessings are more than we can even imagine and that our God *is* the God of comfort. We hope that some of these verses will provide comfort for you in the days ahead.
